Accessibility in Portsmouth

The town of Portsmouth is located on a very flat territory. It has wide streets and pavements so it is ideal for people with mobility problems.

There are old buildings which are almost inaccessible, not all the local buses are fully adapted and you can not find many accessible telephone boxes outside the city centre, but we have noticed a general concern about making Portsmouth a town without barriers.

The Tourist Information Centre (http://www.visitportsmouth.co.uk) and the City Council (http://www.infocentre.com/portsmouthcc) provide useful information for the disabled in their web pages.

People with special needs will also find information about accomodation, leisure, shopping etc, in
http://www.portsmouthand.co.uk/info/disability.cfm

Disabled students will also find Portia page (http://www.libr.port.ac.uk/using/specialneeds.htm) useful, as this is the web of the university library. They provide information on accessibility to Portsmouth libraries.
