International Planning
History Society Book Prizes:
International Planning History Society endeavours to foster the study of planning history worldwide. It
seeks to advance scholarship in the fields of urbanism, history,
planning and the environment, focusing particularly on cities from the
late nineteenth century.
In 2000 a biennial book prize to be announced at the Society's biennial
conference was instituted to recognise research excellence in planning
history. The inaugural prize was awarded at the 2002 London conference
to William Logan for Hanoi: Biography of a City (2000).
Recognising the internationalism of the IPHS, a second prize has been
instituted for 2004.
