work system

The LOCUS IP is organized each year by one of the partner universities in the programme, and will be taking place for fifteen days in a historic city in the host country.

The final result is one or two workshops per year (depending on the financial possibilities) with 9 participant universities (organizing institution + 8 associate institutions), trying to obtain mixed-ability and multicultural teams, and encouraging group discussion and cooperative learning.

In these workshops the students will have to analyze the particular problems of the city that they will be working on, and they will propose alternative designs for the reality that would improve the accessibility.

The simulation of disabilities will be promoted in order to analyze and understand the needs of each user, making them aware of their limitations and possible solutions in each case. It’s not only about preventing the simple memorization of the regulations -useful spaces, minimum widths, radius of turn, maximum ramps slope, etc.-, but the own experience, understanding habits and common sense will provide answers to the problems.

This work system has an added value for the students of Architecture that involves the possibility to get to know and understand a city, and doing it, moreover, from a peculiar point of view: that one of the people with difficulties on accessibility.
